PMseq® (Pathogen Metagenomic Sequencing) is a high-throughput metagenomic sequencing platform that enables the simultaneous identification of more than 36,000 pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites), as well as antibiotic resistance genes (32) and virulence genes (281) in a clinical sample without the need to make prior assumptions about the pathogen type or to culture it. Because microbiological culture is not required, PMseq® allows analysis to begin without delays associated with microbial growth, which is particularly critical in urgent cases or with atypical infections. Broad coverage, supported by BGI’s clinical database, combined with deep interpretation algorithms, ensures high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, even in immunocompromised patients or those with negative results from traditional tests.

Why PMseq®?

  • Over 36,000 pathogens on the detection list, including rare, atypical, and uncultivable microorganisms;
  • Information on resistance genes (e.g., CTX-M, KPC, OXA, NDM, MecA, 23S rRNA);
  • Information on virulence (such as rmpA, iutA, hly, ctxA/ctxB);
  • based on the analysis of 300,000 real-world clinical samples;
  • Compatible with DNBSEQ-G400 / G50 / G99 platforms—1 to 48 samples per run:
  • time to result: 32–56 hours, including automated bioinformatics and interpretation.
PMseq® provides reliable and rapid detection of pathogens, which is critical for:
  • critically ill patients with systemic infections;
  • individuals with prolonged fever of unknown origin;
  • immunocompromised individuals;
  • cases where survival depends on the speed of diagnosis.
The test’s high accuracy allows not only for the identification of the pathogen but also for the adaptation of antimicrobial therapy according to the resistance profile, which minimizes empirical treatment, improves the clinical prognosis, and prevents the overuse of antibiotics. PMseq® — rapid NGS-based diagnosis of infections!
