Tip #20: Comparing UV spectra from different channels
43
In the last Empower tip of the week blog for Empower Software, we explored simplifying Review when working with 3D PDA data. This tip will address comparing UV spectra from different channels.
Wouldn’t it be nice if when you bring channels of 3D PDA data into Review you could compare the spectra from peaks in one channel with the spectra from peaks in another channel? This can be done and it’s easy.
Step 1
Highlight two or more channels of data and bring them into Review (Figure 1).

Step 2
From the Spectrum Review menu select Keep Spectra When Switching Channels (Figure 2).

Step 3
Select File, Open Method Set, and select the Method Set of interest (Figure 3).

Step 4
Apply the Method Set and we see the apex spectra for the integrated peaks in Spectrum Review and information about the spectra in the Spectra table (Figure 4).

Step 5
Select the next channel in the 3D Channels table and apply the Method Set. We see the apex spectra for the current channel in Spectrum Review and information about the spectra from both channels in the Spectra table (Figure 5).

Step 6
To make it easier to tell which spectra come from which channel, right click in the Spectra table and select table properties (Figure 6).
Step 7
Unhide the Source Name field (Figure 7) and move the field towards the left side of the table (Figure 8).

Step 8
Now use the Select field to either display the spectra you want to compare or hide the ones you are not interested in (Figure 9).

It’s that easy!
Final note:
- This works the same if you use the Pro Interface.
